Well the sickness in our home is slowly going away! Please tell me we are not the only household where a virus has taken hold and spread amongst us all...twice?! :-) I can smile now because I finally feel better. Today I didn't have a headache, a sore throat, a stomachache or anything. Sadly my husband is still battling a bad cough and my little Alex still has a running nose. The joys of changing seasons in Minnesota.
I wanted to share with you a fun project, that would make a great gift for the upcoming holiday season. Photo Tile Coasters. They are nothing new but new to me. I found the original instructions here on SplitCoastStampers and just wanted to share what I came up with.
I think the hardest part was figuring out how to print the picture to the right size and to get the tissue paper to feed in my printer. Once I got that figured out and went through a lot of tissue paper and cardstock, I finally accomplished the above.
For feeding the tissue paper, I used cardstock to attach the tissue paper to, not just plain computer paper. I basically wrapped the tissue paper around the cardstock, like wrapping a present. I taped the ends down on the side I would not be printing on. Make sure you figure out, before printing on your tissue paper, which side of your paper your printer prints on, basically how does your paper feed through your printer. Do some simple test runs first before printing your photo.
I liked how the picture looked in black and white, the original photo looked like this:
I cropped it down in my photo editing software and when I went to print, in Microsoft Office Picture Manger, the photo printing wizard pops up and you can select there what size you want the photo to print it which I chose 3 x 5. You can fit 4 of those on piece of paper.
Then simply cut the picture out of the tissue paper to the size you want for the tile. Also at this time if you want to stamp a saying or pattern do it now as well. Then follow the directions as written above.
It's really simple once you figure out the logistics of printing on tissue paper.
I think this would make a lovely gift to remember someone who has passed or for a grandparent who doesn't live nearby (or does nearby!)...or for Dad to take to the office.
If you have any questions on how I made these, just let me know!

Hi Ellie,
Fantastic blog, I'll need to subscribe for sure.
Where do you find the wonderful tiles? I bought some from Home Depot but had to rip open the package in the store to sort through til I found enough 'good' ones.
Michelle~
Thanks! I get mine at Menard's and I personally don't mind the cracked tiles (to a certain extent)..I like the look. I've been getting Ravini beige travertine tiles and they are a little more smooth. It's hard to find travertine tiles without some cracks just because of the type of tile they are. Plus when you use them for the photo tile coasters they end up getting covered up with the photo so it's ok!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
